The Physics program offered by the Laurentian University is the study of matter and energy, space and time, and of the relations between them. Through the study of forces, matter, radiation, energy and all of their interactions, physicists seek to understand the world we live in. Advances in physics often lead to technological advances, and sometimes influence the other sciences.

The study of physics will provide you the tools to shape the future, to determine solutions to new and evolving challenges, some of which we don't even know exist yet. 


Physicists are employed in a broad range of industries with major opportunities for cutting edge careers in research, education, technology and industry. Graduate studies, lasers and optics, chiropractic, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary, medicine, and other healthcare professions, environmental, nuclear science, fundamental physics, space science, research and development, teaching, computing, consulting, product development, non-traditional careers such as management and administration, finance and law, sales and marketing.

General Requirements

Ontario High School Applicants

  • 1 grade 12 English U/M course
  • 1 grade 12 4U Advanced Functions
  • 1 grade 12 U/M Science course
  • 1 additional grade 12 U/M Math or Science course
  • 2 other grade 12 U/M courses 
International Baccalaureate

  • Applicants who have completed the International Baccalaureate are eligible for admission provided they have achieved a minimum score of 28 and have fulfilled the diploma requirements (six subjects, minimum three at the higher level). Applicants may receive transfer credits for higher level courses with grades of 5 or higher.
  • Applicants must submit the International Baccalaureate transcript to the Office of Admissions for evaluation.
