Overview

You'll study and interpret the geological record to search for natural resources like gold, coal, oil, groundwater and rock material used for construction work. This major integrates a range of disciplines from field-based studies to more theoretical aspects of rocks, minerals and their behavior during Earth processes.

Geologists are scientific detectives who try to reveal the past and the future of the Earth. If you want to study the dynamics of the Earth we live on, its resources and the most economic and sustainable way to use these resources, you will find the Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology at Lamar University rewarding. Our program facilities include the Lamar Geospatial Center, a lab complete with 21 work stations and an extensive collection research software.

Careers

The geosciences (geology and earth science) curriculum is intended to enable students to achieve success as skilled professionals in the geosciences.

With a Bachelor of Science degree in geology or Earth science successful graduates may find employment in the energy and other resource industries, in Earth system sciences (environmental, atmospheric and oceanographic sciences), in government agencies, and in K-12 teaching.

Submit Official Evaluation of Transcripts. International Undergraduate applicants must have an official report of course-by-course evaluated transcripts of all secondary and post-secondary work sent to Lamar University directly by the evaluating agency.
