Overview

The Psychology (Forensic and Psychopathology) (Hons) programme at Solent University focuses on how psychology works in the real world, and explores a wide variety of themes, including theories and models of criminal behaviour, offenders with mental health issues, rehabilitation, and forensic psychology in the workplace.

The course places a strong emphasis on developing work-based skills. Students hone their problem-solving skills through case studies and gain practical insights into the work of a psychologist. Additionally, students have the opportunity to do a work placement in your third year.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from our courses have gone on to many different career roles, including probation service officer, initial crime investigator and police community support officer. 

Graduates who wish to go on to become chartered and registered psychologists would need to undertake postgraduate study in their chosen field. 

Although this course focuses on forensic psychology as well as the psychology of mental health, graduates will have an accredited psychology degree which allows them to apply to postgraduate study in other areas as well.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

  • A minimum of two completed A-levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma at DMM or BTEC Diploma at D*D* or equivalent, which comply with the minimum entry requirement of 96 UCAS points.
  • Grade 4 in GCSE English and mathematics (previously grade C).
