The major goals of elementary education are to achieve basic literacy and numeracy among all pupils, as well as to establish foundations in science, mathematics, geography, history and other social sciences.

In this program, you will have many hands-on opportunities to work with this age group and you will create lesson plans and apply them in a variety of classroom settings. The hands-on opportunities include, but are not limited to, working in youth programs on campus, field experiences, and student teaching in area schools to teach things like science, engineering, robotics, storytelling, writing, to name just a few.Upon completion of the entire program, you will receive certification through the Louisiana Department of Education to teach Elementary Education, Grades 1-5. Graduates of UL Lafayette’s Elementary Education program can pursue careers in a variety of fields, including:

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Out-of-State Students

An academic scholarship may be granted to new undergraduate students from out-of-state who are admitted to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This scholarship will cover the cost of the out-of-state portion of your tuition if you meet the criteria. You will be responsible for in-state tuition.

International Students

The University offers three types non-resident fee waivers that can be granted to new incoming undergraduate students, that have citizenship, from countries outside the U.S. Students must first be admitted to the University before scholarships can be processed.
