Overview

Wellness and Health Promotion Degree: The Oakland University Advantage

Health and wellness jobs require a strong personal touch, and that’s where Oakland University excels. We’re small enough to offer face-to-face education, with small classes and extensive faculty attention. But we’re large enough to have comprehensive, state-of-the-art wellness and health facilities (including a medical school on campus) plus community and corporate partnerships that let you explore the full range of health and wellness careers.

The Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention program at Oakland University enables you to:
  • Work with diverse populations. Much of the learning in our health and wellness program takes place in the community. You’ll get field experience in wellness clinics, schools, treatment centers, and other real-world settings, interacting with people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and levels of fitness.
  • Build strong faculty relationships. You’ll learn from national health and wellness leaders who excel as researchers, educators, and practitioners. Our small class sizes enable you to work closely with instructors, developing relationships that can yield significant benefits to your wellness and health career.
  • Acquire practical, results-oriented skills. In addition to developing expertise in health and wellness promotion, you’ll learn to measure outcomes and assess program effectiveness. These advanced skills enable you to maximize your impact on community health and well-being.
  • Pursue innovative degree pathways. Our "4+1" dual degree program allows you to graduate with a Master of Public Health in approximately one calendar year after completing a Bachelor of Science in Wellness and Health Promotion. The Wellness and Health Promotion to Accelerated Second-Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing pathway is available for first-time pre-nursing freshman students who did not gain admission to the Basic BSN program after their first year of study.
