Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the Visual Communication Design (Honours) degree program from University of Newcastle students will have:- coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines and knowledge of research principles and methods
- demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills to plan and execute project work and/or a piece of research and scholarship with some independence
- cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge to identify and provide solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence
- cognitive and technical skills to demonstrate a broad understanding of a body of knowledge and theoretical concepts with advanced understanding in some areas
- cognitive skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in developing new understanding
- technical skills to design and use research in a project

Applicants must have successfully completed a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design or equivalent program with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (credit grade average) calculated from:
- Across the entire degree program; or
- Across a major in the proposed discipline of study, if that degree program includes such a major; or
- Across 80 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists); or
- Where the applicant has completed less than 80 units at 3000 level, a GPA of 5.5 calculated from at least 60 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists).
