In cooperation with physicians and other health care personnel, the athletic trainer aids in the prevention, emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses in physically-active patients. 

Program mission

The mission of the Athletic Training Program at the University of Nebraska Omaha is to prepare students for successful careers or advanced academic studies in the field of athletic training. Admitted students complete a combination of rigorous coursework and clinical experiences over 6 semesters as preparation for national certification and future employment.


An athletic trainer aids in the prevention, emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses in physical-active patients.


UNO’s Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training (BSAT) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has voluntarily withdrawn its accreditation and is no longer accepting students into the Bachelor of Science Program in Athletic Training.

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to apply for the program. All students must maintain a cumulative and major GPA of at least 2.5 to stay in good academic standing. Students must obtain grades of “C-” or better in all ATP courses in order to matriculate through the program. 
  • Successful completion of this program provides the eligibility to sit for the Board of Certification Examination. The tables below show the pass rates of students in the undergraduate program who have taken the BOC exam, employment rates and retention rates.
