Overview

This Mechanical Engineering - Internal Combustion Engines program at University of Miami is designed to acquaint the mechanical engineering student with the fundamental science and engineering underlying the design of both conventional and high performance internal combustion engines and the fundamentals of emission formation in combustion systems, automobile mechanisms and structures including vibrations and noise. 

Included are studies of conventional fuels and synthetic fuels of the future such as hydrogen and methanol. The BSME – Internal Combustion Engines Concentration program is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The objectives of the BSME – Internal Combustion Engines Concentration program is to prepare graduates who, within the first four to six years after graduation are, either:

  • Working as a professional or as an entrepreneur in an area closely related to mechanical engineering, aerospace, automobile, or
  • Exhibit lifelong learning by pursuing or having completed a graduate or professional degree and/or demonstrated professional development

The mission of the MAE Department is to provide an excellent undergraduate and graduate education in mechanical engineering that will prepare graduates to meet society’s needs and aspirations.

General Requirements

  • Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.
  • If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)
  • We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher. 
  • The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
