Overview

There are two things you can be sure of when you study chemical engineering at Vanderbilt. The first is that the fundamentals of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics will become second nature to you. The second is that you can sink your teeth into your profession right away, with numerous opportunities to sharpen your skills and hone your knowledge right in the field and in the laboratory.

Plus you’ll be able to work hands-on with some of the top minds in the business—your professors are not only experts in the chemical and biomolecular engineering field, but they are terrific mentors who will help you find the best application of your talents and interests.

You’ll be challenged. You’ll learn all about material and energy balances, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, chemical and biological separations, and kinetics. You’ll learn chemical engineering analysis and design techniques, along with economic analysis and process control. And since we’re preparing you to go out into the world and take a leadership role, you will also learn economics, humanities, and social sciences.

Funding

We make three important commitments to U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens to ensure that students from many different economic circumstances can enroll at Vanderbilt:

  • First:  Since talent and promise recognize no social, cultural, economic, or geographic boundaries, our admissions process is need-blind for U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens.
  • Second: Vanderbilt will meet 100% of a family’s demonstrated financial need.
  • Third:  Financial aid awards do not include loans. Instead of offering need-based loans to undergraduate students, Vanderbilt offers additional grant assistance. This does not involve income bands or "cut-offs" that impact or limit eligibility.

Studyportals Tip: Students can search online for independent or external scholarships that can help fund their studies. Check the scholarships to see whether you are eligible to apply. Many scholarships are either merit-based or needs-based.
