Overview

The Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology Option offered by New Jersey Institute of Technology. Our graduates typically have strengths in the analysis, applied design, development, implementation, or oversight of advanced mechanical systems and processes.

The MET program emphasizes hands-on experience and the use of state-of-the-art computer software in the fields of mechanical design, automatic controls, power generation, CAD/CAM, HVAC, and engineering sales. The program also provides a background in mathematics and science, which is sufficient to allow students to go on to graduate school, and also obtain a professional engineering license.

General Requirements

  • High school academic record: We consider your entire record—especially your grades in math, science, and English. Your completed course work should include English composition, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, chemistry, and physics. If you're transferring from another school, you should also have completed pre-calculus and calculus.
  • We'll also take into account trends in your performance—for example, if your grades improved between your freshman and senior year.
  • Standardized test scores: SAT scores or ACT scores, using the math + critical reading composite. 
  • The average composite SAT score for our enrolling freshmen is 1190. If your score is below 1100, we recommend that you retake the test to try to raise it.
