The general aim of Criminology studies at University of Valencia is to produce professionals who can answer social need for safety and the prevention and control of delinquency.


As a result, the degree provides students with the theoretical and practical tools needed to analyse crime from a perspective which is interdisciplinary and integral (law, sociology, psychology, etc).

  • This provides students with the tools to contribute to the fight against crime while also respecting the established legal framework and trusting in the social policies designed to prevent delinquency and minimize its effects.
  • The Degree in Criminology at University of Valencia includes 30 optional credits which students can acquire by choosing freely between the optional subjects available. If they wish to specialize in one of the three available areas, they must take the optional subjects corresponding to one of the following specializations: Applied Criminology, Private Investigation and Public Security. Graduates in Criminology can work as a private detective if they take the corresponding optional subjects.

General requirements

Admission to the University of Valencia’s official degree programmes is a procedure in which places are distributed each academic year to students who have applied and have met the entrance requirements. This process includes the university entrance examinations and accreditations, as well as application submission and assignment of places.

According to each individual’s academic standing, candidates must:

  • Pass the relevant entrance examinations (PAU Bachillerato, PAU for students over 25, PAU for students over 45, non-EU university entrance exam equivalent)
  • Obtain access credentials (students over 40, or EU upper secondary school certificate).
  • Possess the proper qualifications (advanced vocational training certificate or a university degree).
