Description
A group of more than sixty pioneering women engineers and engineering students gathered to build a national organization. They met in New Jersey at The Cooper Union’s Green Engineering Camp, on May 27-28, 1950 to officially form the Society of Women Engineers. Groups of women engineers and women engineering students had been meeting informally in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, D.C. They understood the value of sharing encouragement and information, of the strength that comes from solidarity with like-minded peers. The SWE Boston Section was one of four initial SWE sections.
In 1991, SWE’s Board of Directors met in Boston and awarded SWE Boston the bid for the 1995 SWE National Convention. The SWE Convention was held at the Sheraton Boston and featured events such as Networking Night at the New England Aquarium. The excess funds from hosting the 1995 SWE National conference enabled SWE Boston to endow an SWE scholarship.

Eligibility
- Must be undergraduate juniors and seniors in any major.
- A preference is given to the following schools: Boston University, U of Mass Lowell, MIT, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth, Tufts, Wentworth Institute, Worcester Polytechnic, Suffolk, Merrimack College.
- Financial need preferred.
- 3.5 GPA requirement.
