Description

The Katherine F. Lindquist Scholarship was established in honor of Kathy Lindquist, dedicated Past Section Representative for the Smoky Mountain Section of the SWE.  As an individual, she worked tirelessly to accomplish the objectives of the Society and showed a great personal commitment to the youth of East Tennessee.  Professionally, Kathy was a Civil Engineer employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 2002, she received TVA’s Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Protection and Stewardship.Through many years of service as an active SWE member, a Senior Girl Scout Troop Leader, and community volunteer, she introduced many girls to the possibility of pursuing a career in the field of engineering or science and helped them to understand the opportunities for women in these fields and the educational requirements they would have to meet in order to succeed. Her personal and professional accomplishments as well as dedicated service to the East Tennessee community demonstrated to each girl what they can achieve if they have the required skills and desire to do so.  Her passion for the environment, nature, animals, and cultural diversity were evident in the many community and civic efforts in which she participated.
