Bogotá city life
Bogota is also widely known as the "Athens Of South America" as it offers an exciting intercultural experience for international students, starting with cultural highlights, like Cerro de Monserrate, with its breath-taking view of the city, the folkloristic festivities on the occasion of Colombia’s Battle of Boyacá's Day, up to getting a taste of traditional Ajiaco and Bandeja Paisa.
Bogotá is a busy and active city, surrounded by the greens and mountains of the Andes. Bogotá also has high proportion of the country’s creative production activities, particularly in music, cinema, audio-visual and digital animation.
Music fills the streets, people chat at length with strangers, street art brightens up even the most neglected neighbourhoods and there is a real sense of community.
While in Bogota go to colonial villages, thermal springs and mountain hiking trails. Great weekend get-a-ways include a trip to Villa de Leyva, Villavicinecio, Girardot and Villeta among many other places.
Colombians love going “de rumba”, so if you are looking for an active and energetic nightlife, Bogota has a wide range of bars, cafes, discothèques and pubs to offer. The most common neighbourhoods to go out include La Zona T, Parque 93, La Zona G, with popular clubs like Theatron in Chapinero, or Andres Carne de Res in Chia.

Bogotá being a metropolitan city and the largest city in Colombia, attracts a lot of international students and expats. Despite bad reputation 20 years ago, tourism in Bogotá has increased since the 2000s, including its slogan “the only risk is wanting to stay” coupled by improvements in both and population safety.
A new international airport, an ever-expanding bus system connecting the immense city and constant improvements to infrastructure attract international visitors and students coming to live and get a good higher education in Bogotá.
