Isabel's Study Experience

What are your name and age? Where are you from?

My name is Isabel and I am 21 years old. I am a student from The Netherlands.

What is the name of your university, study programme, which discipline? When did you start studying?

I study Communication at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Tilburg, The Netherlands. I started studying in 2014. Last semester I studied at ESIC Marketing and Business school in Valencia, Spain.

What made you choose this programme? How did you decide?

I never thought about studying abroad but then my university told me about it and I thought that sounds really cool, so I checked online some stories and decided that I wanted to go!

Did you find your study programme on StudyPortals? If so, how then did StudyPortals help you in your decision process?

No, I didn't find my study programme on Studyportals. I wanted to go to Italy, but my university didn't have any contact with Italy, so I contacted a lot of universities and asked for the opportunities and prices, but at the end, it was too expensive for me. Lastly, I contacted the International Desk in my university and they helped me with finding the right study programme.

What were the main challenges you had to face before being accepted to your university?

I had to write a motivation and had to do a language test.

Did you take a language test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS) when applying for the programme? If yes, which one did you choose, why and how was your experience with it?

Yes, I did, but it was a language test of Erasmus.

What are three things you like most about the university? Why?

The university was small, everybody knew each other, teachers and students were really nice, and on top of it was close to my home in Valencia.

What was the biggest surprise in your study adventure?

Valencia has a beach, nice old city, and a beautiful new part. The weather is amazing, and on top of it, the nightlife is amazing.

How would you rate your experience on a scale from zero to ten (0 – It is/was a total disaster, 10 – I have/had the time of my life)? Why?

A 10! I really had the time of my life! In the Netherlands, I live with my parents and travel to my university but there I had so much freedom, could do everything I wanted whenever I wanted. And I made so many friends from all over the world, it was amazing!

What would be your advice for students from your country that consider studying abroad? Is there anything that you would do differently if you could do it over again?

Go, Go, Go!! You’ll have the best time of your life!

What are your plans after graduating?

I want to do a master and hopefully, I can go abroad again. I also want to travel a lot and maybe work abroad.

What are three things you like the most about the city? Share your favourite spot, at the university and the city with us!

At Blasco Ibanez, there is really nice and cheap coffee, and after the street, there are a lot of small plazas where you can listen to live music and eat small pizzas.
