My life has changed in Lapland!
My name is Thao Nguyen and my friends call me Tibby. I am from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where I have graduated from a college specialised in Import-Export Business. However, I decided to change my major into Tourism and Hospitality Management and Lapland University of Applied Sciences in Finland caught my attention. After searching for information about the programme online and from the Admission Services, it was time to take action. I filled in an online application and sent all the needed documents by post and then received an invitation to take the entrance exam in Vietnam.
In 2015, the entrance exam consisted of three parts: motivation letter, essay and math. You can prepare for the exam by considering your motivation for the studies and reading information related to your study field. However, the most important tips for the exams are the following:
- Before the entrance exam day: eat, relax and most importantly, sleep well.
- Entrance exam day: concentrate, stay calm and believe in yourself - you can do it!
I was so delighted and proud of myself when I received the results and information about the study place. Then I just followed the instructions to confirm the study place, found an apartment through the student housing organisation and applied for the resident permit.
On August 25, 2015, a Vietnamese girl finally went her own path and started a new life in Rovaniemi. A year in Finland has been wonderful for me. I have learned and experienced new things and have gained lots of friends from many different countries. Rovaniemi is now my second home.
Business Studies in Seinäjoki UAS
My name is Spencer Cutlan, and I am studying International Business at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK). I am originally from Wales in the U.K. but I chose to study at SeAMK because the programme here is unique. Not only are the courses relevant, they also offer opportunities to gain experience working in multicultural groups.
Studying at SeAMK is very practical. There are many courses that include group work and simulations. This combination gives you functional practice and experience of how the business world works. You don't get that from a textbook. Additionally, because there are so many different nationalities within your study group, you get to experience and learn about different cultural ideologies in the class. This can be a priceless attribute that in most schools you don't get to experience.
One of the great things about studying International Business at SeAMK is that the UAS has extensive partnerships with a huge range of schools abroad offering amazing opportunities for exchange studies in countries within Europe but also in countries like Argentina and Vietnam.
In terms of the UAS itself, the modern campus is a great place to study as you can always find a quiet place to knuckle down to your work. Because of the international nature of the school, the study environment is also very social. Because of the international nature of the school, the study environment is also very social and events and parties are taking place all the time!
Soon-to-be Graduate from Metropolia UAS
My Name is Ashley Sharp. I am an Australian and I am soon to be graduating from the Electronics Engineering programme at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. This degree programme has given me a broad skill set that has proved beneficial when working on large projects integrating different fields of expertise.
The lecturers involved in my learning and project work have been heavily influential in the directions that I have taken in regards to my current field of employment in Research & Development, and in finding ways to improve my academic performance.
As of my 3rd year of studies, with the assistance of my programme coordinators, I gained employment as a Laboratory Assistant solving R&D problems in the innovative and exciting area of Electric Vehicles. Working in this field while studying has been challenging, but with the help of Metropolia UAS it has been a success and has now given me crucial experience as I move out into the world of employment.
